Team


Our geologists and geophysicists have vast experience of surveying boreholes for all sectors of the industry. We have logged water wells in China, gold exploration boreholes in Ethiopia; from 5m deep geotechnical boreholes to 2000m deep geothermal boreholes; from the tops of Scottish mountains to jack-up platforms in the Irish Sea. Our team can provide a service customised to our clients’ requirements.

All our field operators are all graduate geologists or geophysicists with data acquisition and interpretational experience over several years.

Health & Safety

We take Health & Safety training extremely seriously. All of our personnel have the following training as a minimum:

  • Emergency First Aid (including AED).
  • HABC Level 2 Award in Safe Moving and Handling (QCF).
  • CSCS Academically Qualified Person.
  • ESS Confined Space Entry including the use of escape sets.
  • EUSR National Water Hygiene Card.
  • Radiation Protection Supervisor (RPS) level trained.
  • AA Advanced Driver Training (road based).
  • Off road driver training including self recovery.


Our Team


James Whitford

Managing Director / Geophysical Logging Engineer

James joined European Geophysical Services in 1996, 18 months after it was formed, as a geophysical logging engineer. He had previously work on various surface geophysical projects.

BSc Honours in Mining and Exploration Geophysics from Cardiff University.

Robert Jennins

Senior Geophysical Logging Engineer

Rob worked in the oil industry before joining European Geophysical Services in 2003.

BSc Honours in Geology from Liverpool University.

Matthew Magill

Director / Geophysical Logging Engineer

Matthew joined European Geophysical Services in 2004, direct from university.

BSc Honours in Geophysics from Liverpool University.

Myles Kynaston

Director / Geophysical Logging Engineer

Myles joined European Geophysical Services in 2008, direct from university.

BSc Honours in Geology from Cardiff University.

Rhys Powell

Geophysical Logging Engineer

Rhys did 4 years post graduate research on various mapping and structural geology projects, followed by 6 years as a geotechnical engineer in Ireland and the UK. He joined European Geophysical Services in 2011.

BSc Honours in Applied Geology from Oxford Brookes University.

David Hingley

Geophysical Logging Engineer

Post graduation David spent 2 years in Australia as an exploration geologist project managing drilling and sampling operations. On his return he spent 2 years as a geotechnical engineer before joining European Geophysical Services in 2015.

BSc Honours in Geology from Birmingham University.

Michael Hand

Geophysical Logging Engineer

Michael joined European Geophysical Services in 2017, having previously spent a year as a geotechnical engineer.

BSc Honours in Geophysics from Cardiff University.

Pip Horton

Office Manager / Accounts

Pip joined European Geophysical Services in 2017. Pip has previously worked in sales and marketing roles before moving into office management and accounting. She is ISO9001 trained, carrying out both internal and external audits.

John Cheslett

Workshop Manager

John previously spent 17 years working as an aircraft engineer for the RAF and civilian contractors. While in the RAF John also worked in the search and rescue teams. John joined European Geophysical Services in 2014.
